Dol (첫돌) Celebrations
What is doljabi?
At a Korean first birthday, the doljabi (돌잡이) is the heart of the celebration: the baby chooses from symbolic items — thread for long life, money for wealth, a pencil for scholarship — each one a wish for their future. It's over in a minute, and it's the moment every parent wants frozen forever. I've photographed it many times. I won't miss it
